Getting Ready for Summer | Bikini Bod
The hot weather days are quickly approaching... meaning shorts, tanks, and bathing suits! As a gal in her 20s eating healthy and being fit is hard when you also have work, are going out for dinner and drinks, and all the other events where yummy calorie filled food and drinks are calling your name.
Keep reading for some tips I do to stay healthy!
I like to start my days with a cup of green tea. I've always just enjoyed tea because I HATE coffee and need caffeine! But there are also a ton of benefits to green tea as well which I read here: 10 Proven Benefits of Green Tea
I'm not a huge morning person and my appetite is never that big in the morning so I usually opt for a bigger brunch. My go to healthy breakfast consists of about 3 egg whites, sautéed peppers and onions, a cup of spinach, and 2-3 slices of Canadian bacon. Later I will make a video of the ingredients and directions to what I like to call "Lous easy and healthy brunch." It's easy to make, delicious, pretty, and healthy!
I also make a point to drink a lot of water a day! I try to drink at least 60oz. Drinking water helps boost your metabolism, cleanse your body of waste, and acts as an appetite suppressant. Also, drinking more water helps your body stop retaining water, leading you to drop those extra pounds of water weight, yay! This article explains all the benefits of drinking water and weight loss! And I don't mind the fact that drinking water keeps your skin youthful and properly hydrated! Water helps you look younger by keeping skin hydrated and reduces wrinkles by filling in and plumping the skin.
Something I think that is REALLY important for staying in shape is joining some sort of summer sport league. Every monday night I play on a woman's soccer league. Soccer is my favorite sport, I've been playing it since I was 5! Even if you're not a super athletic person- there are a bunch of different leagues to join: softball, kickball, ultimate frisbee, and more!! Get a group of friends together and sign up for a league! I love summer sport leagues because it's a great way of working out, that doesn't actually feel like your working out!!! You're exercising and having fun with your friends. They're usually on weekday nights, so it's also something to look forward to after work and to get you moving and burning those calories!!
I don't like to eat a heavy dinner before my soccer games so today I took a sandwich thin (my all time favorite way to eat carbs without feeling guilty) stuck it in the toaster- then added peanut butter and banana slices on top to make peanut butter and banana toast!! This is a great pre workout snack because a peanut butter and banana toast provides healthy unsaturated fats, protein, fiber and complex carbs. Its combination of protein and fiber help you feel full, while the carbs give you sustained energy. There are also several other benefits to this yummy snack/meal which you can read here :)
After soccer I wasn't starving for another meal- but I cut up some water melon and made sure to drink plenty of fluids after working out!
